The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, JAMB has officially published the list, containing names of the most sought-after tertiary institutions after the just concluded 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

According to the JAMB board, the University of Ilorin is the most sought-after institution in Nigeria, closely followed by the University of Lagos.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who is the current Registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) publicly shared this information during the 2023 policy meeting.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede disclosed that these are the top 10 academic institutions with the highest number of applicants during the 2023 UTME registration period.

Most Sought After Universities in 2023.

1. University of Ilorin (UI).

2. University of Lagos (UNILAG)

3. Lagos state university (LASU)

4. Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)

5. University of Benin (UNIBEN)

6. University of Nigeria (UNN).

7. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

8. Nnamdi Azikwe University (UNIZIK).

9. Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

10. University of Ibadan (UI)

Conclusion.

It’s both sad and a strong warning to schools like the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), and UniAbuja, that they should up their games and make their school more attractive, especially Uniport because this school previously made the top 10 most sought-after tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

I sincerely hope the institution looks into its slow academic calendar and high cost of transportation before they slowly become unattractive to Nigerian students.
